I wish there were still ANY drive-ins in the San Fernando Valley (I was a teen in the 80s growing up with the Winnetka 6 in Chatsworth). I would love to venture out to the Mission Tiki, but it’s an hour drive from our home in Woodland Hills. Maybe someday.
Digital projection installed on all 4 screens. It looks FANTASTIC! I uploaded a pic!
Best drive-in theatre in SoCal. DeAnza has done a fabulous job on this (and its sister drive-ins, too!).
Have visited this great venue in 2008 (to see “Dark Knight” and “Clone Wars”), 2009 (for “Fast & Furious” and “G.I. Joe”), and plan to go back again next summer. It must be said that this is one of the best places to visit during the warmer months of the year. Anyone who enjoyed attending drive-ins during their youth is bound to feel a little nostalgic when visiting this place. A truly great example of keeping the drive-in culture alive!
I recently went to the Mission Tiki Drive-In and saw “Sex and the City.” This was first time at this drive-in and my first visit to a drive-in in ten years since the last drive-in, the Winnetka Drive-In, closed in my area. I drove the hour to see a film here because I love drive-ins. And this drive-in was no disappointment. It reminded me of the Flamingo Drive-In in Larry Baker’s novel “Flamingo Rising” because of eccentric tiki decor.
This one opened in 1948 – not listed on CT?

The new name for this D/I is Mission Tiki Drive-In Theatre.
The owners have installed a new projection system called Technalight that has revolutionized the way films are projected at drive-in theatres. It is the clearest and brightest image I’ve ever seen at a drive-in. Even films with consistent nighttime and dark scenes have very minimal loss of clarity.
All LA/OC/San Bernardino/Riverside area folks should definitely visit this place.
