The Laurel Theatre operated in the mid-1970’s as a gay male porn cinema, when Polk Street was considered the second gay district of the city.

In 1964, Life Magazine had an article about homosexuals in San Francisco, in which photographs of the interior of this building were published – it was a gay bar known as the Jumping Frog at that time.
This grundgey little dive was one of the many many gay porn houses in SF during the ‘70s. A storefront transformed into a theater, with a room with couches in it off to the right side of the screen. I am sure it would’ve elicited shrieks if it was viewed in daylight. Fun.
