Culpeper theaters partner for more classic cinema
CULPEPER, VA — Like art deco movie theaters? What about classic films presented in them? If you said yes to either of those questions and will be near Culpeper in the next month, check out their “Library of Congress Presents” series, featuring titles from the National Registry. The State and Mt. Pony theaters are teaming up for this exciting series with $6 admission that starts tonight.

Another Grand festival of silents
EAST GREENVILLE, PA — The Grand Theater, the Upper Perkiomen Valley’s fully restored 1924 landmark, presents another outstanding silent film lineup for the 2013 season. Come enjoy entertainment the way movies were first seen at the Grand – SILENT!
On Sunday, September 29th at 3PM we will be present the 1921 movie that defined heartthrob Rudolph Valentino in “The Sheik”.
On Sunday, October 27th at 3PM we present the horror masterpiece “The Phantom of the Opera” (1925) starring ‘The man of 1000 faces’, Mr. Lon Chaney.

Cass Warner attends WFC Kickoff
NEW CASTLE, PA — Cass Warner, granddaughter of the late Harry Warner, will visit the developing Warner Film Center in downtown New Castle and hold a press conference there Thursday, Sept. 26, at 11:00 a.m.
Ms. Warner, CEO of Warner Sisters, Inc., will help to inaugurate the Film Center’s historical and educational facility at the site of the Warner Brothers’ first theatre, the Cascade nickelodeon, at 18 South Mill Street. She will be greeted by cinema consultant, writer, film historian, and major contributor to the Warner project, Mr. Jack Oberleitner, in the front of a replica of the original theatre facade.
At this event, WFC will unveil its floor plan for the museum on this site and the mural in the entryway by local artist Ken Cole. Rita Dorsch, Community Development Trustee, will release details about the WFC’s first major fundraising campaign.

Garden Theatre 6th Season Begins
WINTER GARDEN, FL — Dan Goggin’s NUNSENSE begins the Garden Theatre’s 6th live season and will be produced by TheatreWorks Florida. Opening night is September 13, and it plays through October 6. The World Premiere of ALICE LOST IN WONDERLAND will be presented October 18 through November 3. Holiday events will be featured December 3-22 and will include movies, concerts, variety shows and dance recitals.
DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS will be presented January 31 through February 23. Beethoven’s final years will be the theme of 33 VARIATIONS, March 14-30. The season finale will be the Garden Theatre production of HAIRSPRAY, April 25-May 25.

3-D Film Expo returns to the Egyptian
LOS ANGELES, CA — Celebrating 60 years of 3-D, the World 3-D Movie Expo is coming back to the Egyptian Theatre in September with its best lineup yet. John Wayne’s “Hondo”, classics like “Kiss Me Kate” and cult favorites like “Jaws 3-D” highlight the thorough program along with long-lost international oddities.

More than 2,000 vehicles jam the US 23 DI for Bricks Flicks
FLINT, MI — More than 2,000 vehicles jammed the US 23 Drive-in Theatre. Along with the classic vehicles and the DJ spinning oldies, there was also a fashion contest, a dance contest and a singer performing songs from the feature film “Grease” which was shown on two screens at 9:30 pm. Prior to the film was a special trailer celebrating the 80th anniversary of the first drive-in theater in Camden, NJ.

Bricks Flicks at the US 23 Drive-in is tonight
FLINT, MI — Flint, Michigan’s annual Back to the Bricks events kick off tonight with Bricks Flicks at the US 23 Drive-in Theatre with new digital projectors installed. Many classic vehicles will fill up the drive-in’s field and possibly spill over onto Fenton Road like in previous years. There will be a DJ spinning oldies and the free movie tonight is the 1978 film Grease starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
Further details are in the Flint Journal. They’re encouraging participants to send photos of the event to the paper for a planned photo gallery. Expect quite a few patrons to be dressed up like the characters in “Grease.” You may recall that part of the movie was filmed at the long gone Pickwick Drive-in Theatre in Burbank, CA.

Hotel bar plays tribute to original Vitascope Hall
NEW ORLEANS, LA — The Hyatt Regency New Orleans has a bar called Vitascope Hall in honor of the city’s first for-profit cinema of the same name that opened in 1896. To celebrate the theatre’s anniversary, they screened silent classics on their tv’s last week.
