Eric Lochtefeld writes a blueprint for saving historic theaters
REDWOOD CITY and MONTEREY, CA — Despite all of today’s challenges, an owner/operator of historic theaters in Northern California is showcasing one success story after another with his work on the Fox and Golden State theatres. Eric and Lori Lochtefeld have not only rejuvenated these properties but the areas surrounding them due to a popular slate of live entertainment.
“If you have a stage capable of live entertainment your future as a historic theatre owner is still bright,” says Eric Lochtefeld, “you just have to learn how to operate it efficiently and productively.”

Gem Theatre launches Kickstarter campaign to buy digital projector
BEAVERTON, MI — The Gem Theatre has launched a Kickstarter campaign as it cannot afford a digital projector. The goal of the campaign is to raise $50,000 to acquire a digital projector to keep the Gem Theatre open. If they can’t reach its goal it may be forced to close at the end of the year.

B&B Coming to Wentzville
WENTZVILLE, MO — Wentzville, Missouri calls itself the ‘Crossroads of the Nation’ because it sits smack-dab in the middle of the U.S. of A! And what better place to open a state-of-the-art megaplex!
B&B Theatres is pleased to announce that they have entered into an agreement with Capital Constructor’s Development to build a new 12-screen theatre in Wentzville, MO, in the Wentzville Bluffs Development. Bob Bagby, President of B&B Theatres said: “We are excited to be working with Capital Constructor’s Development. The state of the art theatre will be a great addition to this premier retail development. We still have details to work out, but we hope to open the new theatre in the spring of 2015.”

Towne Cinema still looking to rebuild
WEST LIBERTY, KY — Almost three years ago, the West Liberty area was pummeled by an EF3 tornado which destroyed most buildings, including the 40-yearold Towne Cinema. Others like the Sipp in Paintsville as well the Prestonburg Strand and Lost Creek’s Way-Back-Wyn also closed. Chris Ball from the Towne is still determined to rebuild but needs help to raise the $750,000 necessary to open a new building.

New Orleans' only single-screen theatre turns 100
NEW ORLEANS, LA — The Prytania turns 100 this year and they have no intention to stop keeping customers happy. Besides classic films, they also have a reputation for being haunted. The details aren’t fully announced for their anniversary on December 20 but you can be sure there will be a party.

Curbed celebrates Brooklyn’s Fox
BROOKLYN, NY — It’s 40+ years too late for a restoration like the Kings but Curbed is taking a look back at the magnificent Fox Theatre on Flatbush Avenue. The palace had a checkered history opening right before the Great Depression and later becoming a rock concert venue. Check out the vintage photos and more as this treasure is remembered.

Hollywood in Portland to add 70mm
PORTLAND, OR — Just 16mm and 35mm weren’t enough for the Hollywood Theatre. They’re now raising money to bring in a 70mm projector and not just to show “Interstellar.”

Judge backs Monroe’s purchase of closed movie theater
MONROE, NY — It’s been a strange trip so far for a theatre that only opened in 2008. The Monroe 6 looks like it will be purchased by the city but to be reopened, not converted into a city services building as was the original plan. In between, there were two lawsuits.
