Temple Theatre makes the jump to digital
HOULTON, ME — The 95-year-old Temple Theatre is a small town gem that’s gotten a lot of love and support from its loyal operators. They’ve wanted to sell it though and with new digital projection and ownership of the adjacent parking lot, it’s a nice package for someone ready to be its steward for the next generation.

Milwaukee keeps searching for a downtown theater solution
MILWAUKEE, WI — In the almost 20 years since the Grand Cinemas closed, Milwaukee has been looking for someone to come in and provide a movie theater for downtown. Many proposals have come but none have ever come to fruition. One thing is for sure, it would have to complement the neighborhood.

Golden Gate Theatre Ownership Press Release
MONTEREY, CA — Monterey’s Golden State Theatre has officially changed hands. On October 1, 2014, Eric and Lori Lochtefeld, owners of the Fox Theatre in Redwood City, became new owners of the GST. After 10 years, Warren Dewey was pleased to pass on the cultural treasure and its rich history to the stewardship of the Lochtefelds. Having already demonstrated successful programming at the Redwood City Fox Theatre with concerts, live theater, lectures, corporate events and private parties, the Lochtefelds have shown that they are capable and talented presenters with an eye for business— good listeners to the community who can deliver the shows that people want to see. Their Fox Theatre was built soon after the Golden State, and was designed by the same architects, the Reid Brothers.

Webster leads by example
WEBSTER CITY, IA — Wrote off only a year ago, the Webster Theater reopened last month to fanfare following a dedicated push by locals and an investment of $200,000. Other downtown theaters are coming back too like the Coos Bay Egyptian and the Spencer Tivoli thanks to their importance in saving their main streets.

Hi-Pointe named St. Louis' best
ST. LOUIS, MO — The always popular Hi-Pointe Theater was named the best in the area by the Riverfront Times. They claim they won the honor by strictly focusing on the films and a quality presentation as opposed to fancier amenities.

Majestic Cinema badly damaged in arson fire
LEEDS, ENGLAND — There isn’t much left after a horrible fire damaged the Majestic Cinema(Grade II Listed building) last week. It had recently been refurbished and had been operating as a nightclub. A man has been arrested for being responsible but a motive has not been established.

Big Anniversary coming for the Admiral
BREMERTON, WA — It’s three years away but locals are already making plans for the 75th Anniversary of the Admiral Theatre. They’re currently in the middle of a fundraising campaign to make essential updates to the theatre. That hasn’t stopped them from booking an ambitious slate of live performances and special events.

Bob White Theatre shows a film again
PORTLAND, OR — 25-year-old Nick Haas wants to bring entertainment back to the Bob White Theatre which would be its first in 30 years. He plans to purchase the building soon as well and present a mix of film and live entertainment.

More than just movies at the Colonial
KEENE, NH — The Colonial Theatre has been keeping crowds happy for 90 years thanks to a mix of entertainment. Besides film, they regularly have a wide array of live events such as circuses and comedy shows.
The Equinox took a look at its history and more importantly how this non-profit has found ways to truly become part of the community.
