Glen celebrates 100 years
GLEN ROCK, PA — The Glen Theatre received a plaque from the local preservation society the other week in honor of its 100 years in business. The Daily Record shared stories about how it has entertained generations of moviegoers and maintained its place in the tight-knit community.

Theater to open at Pinewood Studios
LONDON, ENGLAND — One of Britain’s largest studio is about to get another asset, a movie theater. The onsite theatre will be open to the public as well as Pinewood employees and will feature weekend programming of indie and mainstream fare. Curzon is onboard to operate it.

Multiplex proposed for Boyd
PHILADELPHIA, PA — A proposal by iPic Theatres could lead to an eight screen theatre and restaurant in new construction replacing all but the front of the Boyd Theatre. This can only go forward if iPic can prove that restoring the theatre would be cost prohibitive. Howard Haas of Friends of the Boyd strongly opposes the proposal due to the irreparable damage it would cause.

Demolition of the long closed Fenton Cinemas is underway
FENTON, MI — Demolition has begun on the Fenton Cinemas which closed in 2008. The theatre was sold last February to its neighbor Creative Foam with plans to expand the business.

Ashland Theatre donated to town
ASHLAND, VA — Without steady operations since the 1990’s, owners of the Ashland Theatre have donated it to the town. Local officials plan to restore it revitalize downtown. There are no announced plans on what it will be used for exactly but movies is still a possibility.

Harbor Cinema reopens
MUSKEGON, MI — The 90+ year-old Harbor Cinema is back in business following some extensive renovations. Now under new ownership, the theatre has an updated concessions area, digital projection, and a newly-painted lobby. The theatre will get back to showing first-run films and locals couldn’t be happier with the results.

Warner Film Center unveils museum plans, announces “Gala Hollywood Party”
NEW CASTLE, PA — The Warner Film Center unveiled its floor plan for a museum commemorating the Warner Brothers’ historic first theatre at 18 S. Mill St. yesterday.
Cass Warner, CEO of Warner Sisters Inc. and granddaughter of Harry Warner, one of the original four founding members of the Warner Brothers entertainment empire, addressed approximately 100 well-wishers at the site of the old Cascade Theatre in downtown New Castle.
The inaugural event displayed the museum’s first-completed attraction, a mural depicting old New Castle, by local artist Ken Cole, which covers one wall in the entryway.

Curbed shines light on the Vision
LOS ANGELES, CA — Curbed featured an often forgotten L.A. art deco gem last week, Leimert Park’s Vision Theatre. The jaw-dropping photo gallery showcases all the work the Department of Cultural Affairs has done to maintain the theatre’s luster. It’s used for various entertainment so definitely worth the trip.

Culpeper theaters partner for more classic cinema
CULPEPER, VA — Like art deco movie theaters? What about classic films presented in them? If you said yes to either of those questions and will be near Culpeper in the next month, check out their “Library of Congress Presents” series, featuring titles from the National Registry. The State and Mt. Pony theaters are teaming up for this exciting series with $6 admission that starts tonight.
