Tax credit to speed Senator Theatre renovations
BALTIMORE, MD — A Sustainable Communities Tax Credit is going to bring some improvements to the Senator Theatre. Additional screens and a restaurant are what’s in store and it should all be done by the holidays. Hopefully, the new features can solidify a future for this oft-troubled palace.

Suburban World for sale
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The atmospheric gem, Suburban World Theatre, is up for sale for close to $900K. The Commerce Bank of Edina is selling it following some recent renovations to the roof.

Locals try to revive Ramova Theater
CHICAGO, IL — A local group has put the wheels in motion to save the Ramova Theatre. Vacant for over 25 years, the theatre has fallen into severe disrepair. However, a popular Facebook Fan Group is mobilizing the neighborhood and working towards raising money for the initial steps to revival.

Marcus now owns 10 MN movie theaters after latest purchase
DULUTH, MN — Marcus is expanding its reach into Minnesota with the acquisition of its tenth theater there. They’ll be converting the Omnimax theater at the Convention Center into another of their UltraScreen theaters.

Former theater seen as a centerpiece for Baltimore arts district
BALTIMORE, MD — The Centre Theatre hasn’t operated as a theater in over 50 years. Thanks to a developer along with financial assistance from the Maryland Institute of Art, it will rise again as the cornerstone of a redeveloped Station North neighborhood. They plan to use it for concerts, workshops, film and more.

Riots destroy Athens cinemas
ATHENS, GREECE — An unpopular loan agreement incited riots around Athens that led to extensive fire damage to the [Asty]/theaters/37677, Attikon and Apollon Renault cinemas. It’s unclear how bad the petrol bombs were but their future looks grim.

400 is the new 100

16-screen movie theater could rejuvinate downtown Towson
TOWSON, MD — Following the closing of the Commons last year, Towson has been clamoring for a theater. They’ll have to wait two years but a new entertainment complex will feature a a new 16-screen theater from Cinemark.
