Post Falls Theater closes
POST FALLS, ID — The Post Falls Theater closed last weekend. The owner blamed a lack of community support for the aging theatre.

Struggling movie theaters could be a boon for Netflix
With sales down for another year and less tickets sold, studios could be looking to Netflix to save them. A large segment of the population has made it clear that they’d rather stay home and with the rising popularity of video games, using Netflix as a distributor could be next.

Neighbors fight to protect Brooklyn Heights Cinema
BROOKLYN, NY — Amid talk of tearing down the theatre, local groups have stepped up to voice their love for the historic Brooklyn Heights Cinema. The plans for the site have not been revealed. There has been so much local support though, that the theatre could possibly move if the building is indeed torn down.

Hazard Kentucky Cinemas undergo restructuring add Oberleitner
HAZARD, KY — Condy Wayne and Wilhelmina Fugate have announced several changes to their Hazard, KY based theatre company which includes the Fugate Cinema 5 in Hazard and the 2-screen Way-Bak-Wyn, Drive-In theatre in Lost Creek, KY.
Operations are now handled through 3C Entertainment, Inc., a Fugate Family Enterprise, The Fugate family have operated theatres in the area for over 30 years. “ Our intent,” according to Wilhelmina Fugate,“ is to redecorate and improve efficiency at our current locations while preparing to open a new, state-of-the-art multi-plex unlike any other in the area.”

Downtown L.A. theater and office building to be turned into hotel
LOS ANGELES, CA — Still no word on exactly what the theatre will be used for, but the United Artists Theatre will be part of the new Ace Hotel. Summer 2013 is the target for opening.

Higginsville fights to save movie theater
HIGGINSVILLE, MO — After reporting a couple weeks ago that the Davis Theatre was in need, locals have stepped up. Many have made donations but there’s still lots of work to do. Receiving a grant is one option but doing the conversion in stages will probably make the most sense.

Lansdowne Theatre, the most popular photo on cinematreasures
Cinema Treasure’s most popular photo, with more than 13,000 views, is of the Lansdowne Theatre a long closed movie palace in Philadelphia’s suburbs. Howard Haas informs us that the photo is so popular because it is on the recent “After the Curtain” write up of the Lansdowne Theatre.
As the nonprofit organization owning the Lansdowne Theatre is fundraising by charging rental fees to photographers, many stellar photos of the Lansdowne are emerging.
Another recent site features an amazing photo of the stagehouse, and more tantalizing photos of the Lansdowne are found on this site.

Bing Crosby Theater to be sold
SPOKANE, WA — Citing a need for an infusion of energy, the Bing Crosby Theater’s owner is putting it up for sale this spring. Some improvements will need to be made and he will probably be looking for at least $1 Million.

Avalon Cinema demolished
ST. LOUIS, MO — The Avalon Cinema is no more. After years of fighting between the city and its neglectful owner, the theatre finally saw the wrecking ball last week.

Strand Theatre gets $150K grant
PLATTSBURGH, NY — The Charles R. Wood Foundation has awarded the Strand Theatre a $150K grant for its restoration. With these funds, they’re getting closer to reaching their goal. More and more local citizens are getting on board with the idea of this being a new anchor for downtown.
