Exhibitor chains and website Tugg join to lure audiences to theaters
Some major theater chains are working with the website Tugg to let customers choose the films shown. A minimum group will be required but Tugg will secure the film and handle the ticketing.

Thieves strike Palace Theatre
LOCKPORT, NY — The Palace Theatre was the unfortunate victim of a burglary a couple weeks ago. Thieves took a few air-conditioning units that they just raised money for a few years back.

Study reports piracy has negligible influence on U.S. box office
Piracy may be growing but one report suggests it’s not much of an issue in the U.S.. They say Americans still prefer to see films in theaters but the greater lag time before the same film is released internationally has hurt the situation.

A new agreement will bring more US films to China. The annual quota of films to be exported will be raised and the US studio share for these releases will go up as well.

Regency Fontana 8 reopens
FONTANA, CA — After taking it over a few months back, Regency has reopened the Fontana 8 following some improvements. They’ve upgraded the sound and projection along with replacing fixtures.

Old movie theaters find new life
USA Today is reporting that an increasing number of revamped classic theaters are appealing to today’s moviegoers. They feature a number of classic theaters still standing like the Tampa, Fowler, Hollywood Theatre, Colonial, the Boyd and the Joy.

Stuart Street theater getting major remake
BOSTON, MA — The Stuart Street Playhouse will reopen as Theatre 1, an upscale screening room and event space. There will be plush seats that double as workstations which they hope will open doors to loads of entertainment possibilities.
