Six movies kick off Riverside Film Festival
SAGINAW, MI — The lovely Temple Theatre is hosting the Riverside Film Festival starting tonight. The art-house far screenings will go through this weekend.

Prime 11 Cinemas abruptly closes
ANDERSON, CA — After receiving an eviction notice a couple weeks back, Prime 11 Cinemas closed its doors last week. Besides leaving its workers without jobs, the loss of the major tenant could greatly affect the already struggling Shasta Outlets where it’s located.

Railroad Square Cinema falls on hard times
WATERVILLE, ME — Autumn has typically been a slow time for the Railroad Square Cinema but this year is off the charts. They’re now aggressively trying to sell memberships to the theatre to raise revenue and keep their independent/foreign films program going.

Red Vic to become food startup space
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Shuttered this past summer, the Red Vic could be making a comeback. Not as a movie house this time but as a pseudo test kitchen for area chefs.

Theater reopens in Willows
WILLOWS, CA — Andy’s Theater reopened the other week to much fanfare. The community has banded together and put loads of hours to bring it back and it’ll still take a major effort to keep it open. They’re on the right track though.

Oral History Project for the Paramount
YOUNGSTOWN, OH — With the Paramount Theatre long beyond repair, the McDonough Museum of Art wants to collect memories from locals about the theatre to be edited and screened in the museum. The project will also be available on DVD for a donation. Anyone interested should book a time with them next month.

Longtime theater owner dies at 72
OBERLIN, OH — Arlene B. Steel passed away last Wednesday whose family owned the Apollo Theater for over 80 years before selling it to a subsidiary of Oberlin College. She was loved for keeping the theatre a social environment and maintaining its low prices.

Chelsfield and EAD sell Shepherd’s Bush cinema site for hotel development
LONDON, ENGLAND — The Sheperd’s Bush Pavilion is under threat of being redeveloped into a hotel. The Grade II listed building would be turned into an upscale hotel by Kosmopolito Hotels.

Seattle Film Festival’s new home opens
SEATTLE, WA — As reported in August, the Seattle Film Festival reopened the Uptown Cinemas. KUOW News reports that the festival now has offices and classrooms blocks away with the entire campus recently opening to the public for the festival.
