    Plaza Theater update

I would like to update the info on the Plaza Theater in Humboldt, TN. I, along with two good friends, purchased the theater in January of 2007.

We have remodeled it extensively. We have upgraded the sound and projectors in all three theaters as well as paint and carpet in the lobby and concessions area and paint and lettering on the marquee. It is a triplex. Theater #1 seats 135, Theater #2 seats 125 and Theater #3 seats 90. I’m sure when the theater was built and had just one screen it would seat approx 600. When the theater was transformed into a triplex, lots of seating was lost due to walls and such.

We show first run movies and focus mainly on family oriented films. The website for the theater is www.plazatheater.net

    Suburban London Cinemas

    Hello,

I am the author of a new book called Suburban London Cinemas (just published by The History Press, here in the UK: ISBN 9780750949538).

It has loads about the city and the many, many cinemas that used to be so popular there.
Details locations and how to reach them/biogs etc.

    Thanks,
    Gary

  • Brooklyn Fox program

BROOKLYN, NY — Hi, I was in the Fox Theatre for the Murray the K’s easter show in 1965 and it was one of the most memorable concerts that I ever saw with the Righteous Brothers, Little Anthony, Four Tops and others.

Would anyone have a copy of the program for that show as I lost mine. I have talked a lot about that show over the years.

    Thank you,
    Linda

  • 100 Avenue A in NYC was a movie theatre? (but which one)

Hello CT friends. Please help me I am pulling my hair out (figure of speech as I am bald) trying to figure out the name of the movie theatre that was located at 100 Avenue A between East 7th and East 6th streets. It’s currently a supermarket known as East Village Farms if that helps narrow it down. Here’s a picture of what the building looks like: http://www.seanrichards.com/100-aveA.jpg

I tried locating it here by zip code 10009 and the closest theatre on Avenue A is the Avenue A Theatre formerly at East 4th Street/Avenue A (a few blocks away).

  • Processor problems

I have a CP-55 that for some reason is producing ‘pops’ and ‘clicks’ once in a while for no reason. This happens in all formats including ‘non sync’ when we are running a cd player with background music…all speakers are affected including surround speakers….it doesn’t happen all the time…just when it wants to..even when the shows are on…it sounds like an occasional ‘thump’. Any ideas as to which card is dying?

Also, if anyone has a CP500, 650 or CP65 and DA20 for sale, please let me know!
    Thanks.

Music to save the Senator this weekend

BALTIMORE, MD — Local musicians are coming together this weekend to save the Senator Theatre.

Popular Baltimore-based bands The Payola Reserve, J Roddy Walston and The Business, and Wye Oak announced today their plans to hold a first-of-its kind live benefit concert to help the renowned Senator Theatre remain in operation. The concert is a timely response to actor David Arquette’s recent celebrity MySpace blog highlighting the endangered status of “Baltimore’s Premiere Showplace”.

The Senator, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is converting to non-profit operation as an enhanced arts and entertainment facility; however the recent economic downturn and fixed overhead costs threaten to shutter the stunning art deco landmark theatre before the transition can be accomplished.

  • Nova 8 in Naperville closes

Nova Theatres has closed the Nova 8 in Naperville, IL. But don’t worry cinemagoers. It will soon show movies again. Per Nova’s website, “We regret to inform our valued patrons, that the Nova 8 Cinemas is now closed. The Theater will undergo extensive renovations, and re-open as a Hollywood Blvd in the coming months.”

The Nova 8 was opened by Cineplex-Odeon in 1992 as the Westridge Court. It became a Loews-Cineplex after the merger, but was closed in 2001 when that chain filed for bankruptcy. Nova Cinemas reopened it a year later as the Nova 8. Competition from the soon to open Kerasotes Theatres at Fox Valley may have been a factor in the decision to close this place.

The Theater will undergo extensive renovations, andd re-open as a Hollywood Blvd in the coming months.

    3-D Revolution at movie theaters

An article in the Philadelphia Inquirer looks at the upcoming 3-D pictures coming to a theater near you.

Moviegoers, adjust your eyeglasses for what Hollywood gamblers bet is the next revolution in film: digital 3-D.

Not the cumbersome, headache-inducing gimmickry behind 1950s movie novelties like Bwana Devil and House of Wax. It’s the nanotechnology giving the filmmakers James Cameron and John Lasseter the means to dissolve the screen separating the viewer from the movie experience. Some Wall Street analysts say that within the next two years, 3-D could boost movie revenue 10 percent – if there are enough digital 3-D theaters to accommodate the volume of product.
