Maple rises again
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI — The Maple Theatre reopened last weekend after two years in darkness. Featuring art house and mainstream films, the newly renovated theatre includes a bar and dine-in seats in each auditorium.

Lincoln Theatre carries on as the movie world turns digitial
TROY, MT — As the list of cinemas without digital dwindles, the Lincoln Theatre still charges ahead. A local couple, Josh and Tina Moore, took it over a few years ago but still haven’t raised the funds for new projection. They continue to operate week to week based on the availability of prints.

What’s next for the Olympic?
ARLINGTON, WA — Without digital projection, the clock is ticking for the 75 year-old Olympic Theatre. There was hope for a fundraising campaign to purchase equipment but the owner prefers to just sell it outright. They’re not restricting themselves to buyers solely interested in presenting films though.

Future of Vassar Theatre uncertain after the death of its owner
VASSAR, MI — The owner of the Vassar Theatre, Tim O'Brien, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home on March 19 at age 52. His funeral was held on March 24 at the theatre.

AUSTIN, TX — Closed since 2010, the Dobie Theatre may open again soon. The owners want to provide a less expensive moviegoing option for the area but there’s plenty of competition.

West Dover theater reopens under MHCA banner
WEST DOVER, VT — After two dark years, the former Mountain Park Cinema is back and better than ever. The MHCA (formerly Memorial Hall Center for the Arts), a non-profit organization, purchased the theatre and upgraded the projection and interior as well. They plan to show films regularly Wednesday through Sunday.

Curtains to close on the Clova Cinema
CLOVERDALE, CANADA — No exact date is set for it but it appears the Clova Cinema will stop showing movies this summer. A church is purchasing it and renovating it to the point where presenting films will not be practical. The theatre had been struggling to operate without digital projection.

AMC rolls out Red Kitchen
When AMC announced dine-in theaters in 2012, they started small with more substantial concessions. They’ve now taken it a step further by involving celebrity restauranteur Danny Meyer to create a Red Kitchen experience with more unique fast casual offerings.

“Veronica Mars” success shows people still go to the movies
Even with many of the most hardcore fans getting a free download, audiences still showed up last weekend for “Veronica Mars.” Everyone seemed satisfied with the $2 Million opening for the flick which could lead to sequels and more varied distribution models in the future.
