Santa Monica theater upgrades could touch Laemmle too
SANTA MONICA, CA — With all the buzz about new ArcLights coming to Santa Monica, Laemmle didn’t want to be left behind. They’re proposing adding more screens but reducing overall seats in an effort to modernize the complex.

Berkeley’s long-shuttered UC Theatre to get new life
BERKELEY, CA — Closed since 2001, plans are finally in the works to reopen the UC Theatre as a concert venue. David Mayeri is halfway to raising $5 Million to renovate the space with an anticipated Summer 2015 opening. They plan top hold 75 shows a year in the 1917 building.

Lebowsky Center reopens May 9 with “Shrek the Musical”
OWOSSO, MI — The Lebowsky Center, built in 1926 as the Capitol Theatre and nearly destroyed by fire in 2007, will officially reopen on May 9 when the Owosso Community Players present “Shrek the Musical.”

Showcasing the Manlius Art Cinema
MANLIUS, NY — Syracuse.com recently profiled a trip to Manlius Art Cinema, what claims to be Central NY’s oldest. Open since 1918, the 200-seat theatre stills pumps out art-house hits and with a new digital projector and steady business, appears to be set for a while.

World Premiere in Wind Gap
WIND GAP, PA — The Gap Theatre thought they had hit at big when scenes were filmed there for the new Jayne Mansfield biopic, “Diamonds to Dust.” It gets bigger this weekend as they’re hosting the premiere too.

End of an era in Forest Hills
FOREST HILLS, NY — The neighborhood favorite Brandon Cinemas closed last weekend after almost four decades in business. The plan is to open a pediatric health facility in its place. While mostly know recently for playing art-house films, when it was a single-screen in the ‘70s it did big business with “Star Wars.”

Hot Tub Cinema coming to NY
NEW YORK, NY — Just when you thought 4-D cinemas have pushed the cinema envelope to its limit, there are now reports of a Hot Tub Cinema coming to New York. Already successful in London, the concept that pairs light-hearted films with food, drink and of course hot tubs is coming stateside. The same company will be producing Hot Tub Speed Dating and Hot Tub Karaoke events soon too.

Pot Belly’s Cinema to close
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL — Running the 36 year-old Pot Belly’s Cinema has become too much for the current owners and they’ve decided to close. Have no fear though, the new owners plan to keep it as a theatre following some renovations. Some collectibles from the theatre will be sold off this Saturday.
