Holiday Square reopening coming soon
COVINGTON, LA — Shuttered since 2008, the Holiday Square has long-been in renovation limbo, waiting to be converted into a dine-in theatre. The wait may finally be over as Southern aims to reopen it this summer. They’ll lose 5 screens from their original 12 to make way for a kitchen.

Forest Hills' Michael Perlman Wins 2014 Preservation Award by the Historic Districts Council
FOREST HILLS, NY — Instrumental in saving the Ridgewood Theatre, Michael Perlman will receive the 2014 Grassroots Preservation Award from the Historic Districts Council this Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at 6:30 PM at Grace Church, 254 Hicks Street, Brooklyn Heights. Besides theatres, he’s saved various structures in the area. He led the charge to reopen the Forest Hills Stadium four years ago and it’s now booking concerts again for the first time in years.

Montgomery Mall sees cinema changes
BETHESDA, MD — The Movies at Montgomery Mall, a 3-screen cineplex at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, MD, has closed. It will be replaced by a new luxury ArcLight Cinemas multiplex this fall (that theater is currently under construction at the mall).

70mm Film Festival returns to Chicago
CHICAGO, IL — If you’ve never seen a film in 70mm and will be in Chicago this summer, be sure to check out the 70mm Film Festival that will be returning to the Music Box in July. While the full schedule hasn’t been confirmed, classics like “Vertigo” and “2001: A Space Odyssey” will definitely be back.

Dealflicks takes their show on the road
Dealflicks, the startup mentioned two years ago, is growing their business thanks to the old school sales strategy of meeting clients face to face. The sales team is riding in a van around the country to gain new business for their innovative product. They work with theaters to sell discount tickets and concessions during more challenging time periods.

SIFF makes theatre moves
SEATTLE, WA — At their Opening Night Gala, not only did the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) announce they’ve acquired a lease for the Egyptian Theatre, closed for the past year, but they’ve also purchased the Uptown. The one-time film festival will now have even more robust year-round exhibitions.

Batesville gem faces its fate
BATESVILLE, IN — The clock is ticking for the Gibson Theatre as today is the last day for the theatre’s kickstarter campaign to raise money for a digital projector. The 93 year-old theatre could close in a matter of months if they don’t raise $15K.
