Strand still shines after 90 years
ROCKLAND, ME — The landmark gem, the Strand Theatre, seems to be better than ever thanks to a loyal community. By being a truly independent theatre, they’re able to book what their fans really want with everything from esoteric documentaries to art-house hits.

Next steps for the State
SIOUX FALLS, SD — It’s been a long road for the multi-year renovation of the State Theatre but the end is near. The lobby work has been completed and they’re focusing now on bringing the auditorium to a modern digital standard while still preserving its past.

Scottsdale Six demolished
SCOTTSDALE, AZ — After three dark years, the Scottsdale Six is really gone for good. It was demolished last week with future plans for some type of commercial development. It was open for over 30 years.

Key designer of Radio City Music Hall remembered
A new book is out about artist and sculptor Hildreth Meière who barely anyone knows as the designer of the three roundels on the side of Radio City Music Hall. A prolific muralist as well, she also did work at the Nebraska State Capitol and The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis.

Another act for Miller’s
NAVASOTA, TX — Miller’s Theater closed three months ago but locals won’t have to wait long to visit their favorite theatre again. It reopened last weekend with digital projection and sound which will give it the option of presenting more than just movies. Stadium seating may be on the way as well.

Updated Los Gatos reopens
LOS GATOS, CA — After two quiet years, the Los Gatos Theatre is making a triumphant return. Newly renovated, the theatre opened to guests the other week and has a new upstairs screening room. The single-screen has been restored downstairs and they have equipment to take them into the next generation as well.

Michigan man builds theater empire
The Detroit Free Press did a feature recently about Paul Glantz, a local man with a finance background that built the Emagine chain. Now 12 years later, they’re still bringing in crowds by keeping up with technology every step of the way.
