Mission Theater takes it up a notch
PORTLAND, OR — Like the nearby Baghdad, the Mission Theater has reopened following extensive renovations. They’ll continue to be second-run but now have new seats and sound. The early adopter of brew and view will also still serve beer.

Masonic Temple Theatre to change hands
FORT SMITH, AR — The 1929 Masonic Temple has finally found a suitor as the production company Fiery Moon is negotiating to take it over and restore it. The plan to restore the theatre there as well which had been leased out recently.

New amenities for reopened Twin
SALEM, OH — After the Salem Twin closed last year, there were no first-run options for Salem residents. Now the theatre is reopening, better than ever. Not stopping just at digital projectors, there will be new seats as well as in interesting private screening room concept.

Buffalo’s only downtown cinema to close
BUFFALO, NY — Hinted at six months ago, the Market Arcade Film & Arts Center is set to close tomorrow. The current operators cannot afford to install digital projection. Don’t panic just yet though. There are numerous parties looking to reopen it and the city is weighing its options.

Senate Theater Marquee Neon
DETROIT, MI — The neon marquee letters at the Senate Theater are now working. First time in at least 35 years! Drive by to see it and to visit the Senate for a movie or music show.
The new 40x20 ft movie screen was installed in July 2013.

Lido to show more than just movies
NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A new operator is taking over the classic Lido Theatre with plans to do concerts there starting in the Fall. The theme will be 80’s music but they’ll still show films during the week.

Steamtown cinema future in jeopardy
SCRANTON, PA — The Marquee Cinemas are in danger of closing as the adjacent mall is up for sale. It could close as early as next month but thankfully there are numerous interested parties.

Rialto up for sale
SOUTH PASADENA, CA — The long dormant Rialto Theatre is up for sale by the family trust that’s held it for generations. Closed for the last 7 years and a key player in the revitalization of the community, there is hope that a new owner will bring it back to entertaining in some way. While Landmark still holds a lease for 10 years, they don’t anticipate that getting in the way of future plans.

City council grants Century 21 dome theater historical status
SAN JOSE, CA — Even the mayor questioning its historic status wasn’t enough to silence the support to save the Century 21. City Council voted Tuesday to grant the domed gem status with potential national recognition on the way.
