Warner Grand fire curtain becomes new focus of restoration
SAN PEDRO, CA — A fire curtain original to the Warner Grand was showcased recently and featured as a cornerstone of the restoration project. While it still looks great, as it contains asbestos it needs to be sealed.

Clay Theatre closes
GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL — After less than two years back in business, the Clay Theatre has closed again. It just didn’t get enough support to keep the doors open and its future is now unclear.

Southeast Asia Movie Theater Project
What started out as a casual project for researcher and photographer, Phil Jablon, has mushroomed into a massive endeavor, documenting the fading movie palaces of Southeast Asia. He now has the support of local conservation groups as he works towards a book and saving various cinemas.

Few cinemas for Bronx residents
BRONX, NY — The New York Times had a great opinion piece last weekend about the dwindling cinema options in the Bronx. Recent closures have left only the AMC Bay Plaza 13 and the Concourse Plaza as the only choices for the borough which if considered its own city, would be the sixth largest in the country. Former movie house on the clock
ROANOKE RAPIDS, SC — Shuttered for years, the Peoples Theater is under court order to be torn down or brought up to code. The owner has not made a public comment but past efforts to renovate it have failed. While the theatre presents no danger at the moment, it’s been decaying for years.

THS partners with Matt Lambros for book on Kings
ELMHURST, IL — The Theatre Historical Society has announced its first book project, a collaboration with master photographer Matt Lambros called “Kings Theatre, The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of Brooklyn’s Wonder Theatre”. The piece will be released early next year and include photographs of the famous theatre from various stages leading up to its massive restoration as well as interviews with past employees.

WALTHAM, MA — The Embassy Cinema has been sold but the new owners still plan to keep it as a cinema. The Embassy also still has ten years on its lease and continues to do well.

Batesville movie theater saved from closure
BATESVILLE, IN — The small town got behind their beloved theatre and in the eleventh hour, the Gibson Theatre last month and raised $15K in a matter of weeks.
