The big thing is that this theater will have digital projection in all screens and stadium seating. Digital projection was at the Meadow Six, only for “Star Wars Episode I” and also for the digital pre-show. I think the Wayne theater will survive since it has digital projection in one screen, and another at the smaller theater. The Clifton Commons will outgrow the Allwood since the Allwood lacks digital projection, and hopefully when the economy improves the Fabian 8 will open in Paterson.

Hoboken is opening next week. I don’t know about the Fabian, and Xanadu might open in 2010. The Kerasotes theater will open on friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony and free movies and food.

They should come to the NYC Metropolitan Area, where there’s a huge moviegoing population. If this nationwide thing is a success, then they should expand it worldwide. Can you say saki and a movie in Japan?

Just in time for the Christmas Carol movie…which will be a huge hit. I saw a trailer for the movie attached to All About Steve at the AMC in East Hanover and looks like a movie that will still play throughout Christmas on one screen, with Avatar playing on another 3D screen and the IMAX Digital 3D screen. This past weekend, other than Toy Story and Paranormal Activity, the matinee performance of a Met Opera, Tosca, was sold out. It’s too bad that AMC didn’t show a video game on a big screen, as Sony did with their 4k projectors to promote “Uncharted 2”, which Sony is advertising as a movie-like video game. A handful of select theatres, none AMC, showed the game on a big screen and several LED screens for audiences to play.

Due to popular demand, the “Toy Story” double feature will extend its run this weekend. What’s the latest on the second 4k screen? I was so looking forward to seeing “Where the Wild Things Are” in digital projection; looks like I’ll have to go to mansfield. There’s an update on the rockaway protest at http://www.dailyrecord.com/ According to the site, one of the protesters got hurt so police were called on saturday night to protect the moviegoers from the protesters.

How about 3D movies? The digital ones. They should get 4k projection and not the digital IMAX screens that the chains are using. They should also show broadway musicals like other former movie theaters that are now broadway theaters.

BTW, what were the Twilight shows? I think they were late night showings of movies for a discount, which AMC profited from. They should bring it back so that audiences can fill the seats at the AMC in Rockaway.

One of several AMC theaters to retain the hanging LED movie showtimes above the box office (Wayne also has it and probably Ridgefield Park).

The next movie to be shown after “WTWTA” is the Michael Jackson movie, which was shot with a Red One camera. It won’t be in 3D, although the concert upon which this film is based on had an elaborate 3D music video to be shown, but that didn’t come to fruition. After that movie, it’s “A Christmas Carol” in Imax 3D and Digital 3D and then Avatar, followed by Alice in Wonderland.

Starting on November 19, AMC is showing the first “Twilight” movie at 9 p.m. for $6, followed by the midnight showings of “New Moon”, one out of six showtimes are sold out. What’s the status on the second 4k screen?

Paranormal Activity is playing at this theater on several screens. Will this theater get the IMAX treatment? The entire building is not as tall as other AMC theaters in North Jersey…so it might get 4k for all screens (i guess).

Which auditorium will get the digital IMAX treatment and when will it open…I think Avatar will be the next movie. Paranormal Activity is playing at this theater, as is AMC’s sister theaters in Rockaway and Clifton.

So now Secaucus residents will have to go to North Bergen for their movie fix, as the Columbia Park 12 is the only theater that shows the same movies that this theater had. That is, until the new Kerasotes 14 theater opens with the new Michael Jackson movie in a few weeks.

Wow…for a movie that hasn’t been advertised on tv yet but seen online by millions as well as in theatres, that’s some good news. Is the theater doing anything for its 15th anniversary on November 18th, 2009? That weekend, the “New Moon” movie comes out, although it won’t be in IMAX (“Xmas Carol” will be shown in IMAX 3D). The next IMAX movie to be released will be “Where the Wild Things Are”, which is a supersized version of the 2.35:1 version of the movie, similar to what was done to “Star Trek”.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Loews Plaza 8 on Oct 7, 2009 at 11:48 am

Pretty soon they’ll remove any signs that say “Loews Theatres” and the searchlight logo, as well as remove the marquee…I hope the Kerasotes shows a mix of indie, foreign, and box office fare much like the old Loews theaters. The Plaza 8 was popular with kids as they often show family films. Since the theater’s closing, attendance to the nearby shops and stores have probably decreased. The same could be said once the Meadow Six theater closes this Friday, to be replaced by retail space.

For those who have AMC moviewatcher cards, they can go to either Jersey City, Linden, Ridgefield Park, Lincoln Square, Clifton Commons, or Jersey Gardens. Why is AMC shutting this place down? It’s not because of the lease not getting expired. It’s because there’s a new theater opening up that will have the same number of screens as this theater and its now gone sister theater. I’ve been to this theater several times, and it had more large screens than the Loews in Wayne, since there were six screens and some of them could show 70mm film and even show films in 8-channel SDDS, which was changed to Dolby Digital EX after AMC took over. A lot of businesses near the theater will suffer after the theater closes, only to resurface when Kerasotes opens up their new theater.

The next movie I want to check out at this theater is Paranormal Activity, which some people are calling the next Blair Witch Project. It’s playing on two screens (just like Couples Retreat), and if it does well, it will have legs at this theater. After Toy Story is done, perhaps AMC will show “Where the Wild Things Are” in digital on one screen and on another with the closed captions/descriptive video system, which I hope they keep for those who are blind and or deaf.

One other note….the lights in the men’s room after the movie was over was dimmed. They should fix the lights the next time I visit this theater. The men’s room was near the arcade. One bright side was that the cashiers behind the box office highly recommended the movie since they saw it for free. The movie was good, and they showed some decent trailers. I can’t wait to see 2012 in 4k at this theater, as it is one of the movies that will be shown in that format by Sony.

More info on my visit to the theater last night…it was a 4:45 showing, although the showtime wasn’t printed right on the ticket but the auditorium was right. The cleaners near the screen told us that the movie was almost over after the 2:30 showing. The crowd was about 15-20 out of 360 seats. With the IMAX formatting, the only screen with 360 seats will be theater #9. I hope the allow some spaces for the disabled.

When IMAX-D comes this december, expect higher prices for showings of movies, even a few dollars more than the 3D Digital showings. At least AMC will still use AM Cinema for those who have deep pockets.

BTW, what surround sound format is used for the 4k auditorium (and the one to open soon)? Does it have more channels than the regular Dolby Digital EX that is in every other auditorium? As for the digital IMAX, I can’t wait. It will be my first time seeing an IMAX movie in a regular auditorium. I’ve seen an IMAX movie twice at Lincoln Square, and the print was a bit scratched a few months after it came out (the movie was “L5”), and there were minor splices. IMAX digital will help IMAX advance into the next generation and is less heavier than the giant film reels that IMAX uses in its old auditoriums.
