We understand,Here is a quote a friend said about me,“Mike was very good to work with.Everybody worked. The Theatre business was good because you worked for thirty minutes, that was when the show started and the crowd got in.And Mike was good for the other hour and a half while thee show was running” from Tommy Capers,Assistant Manager at National Hills,Imperial, and Columbia 1 and 2 Theatres in Augusta,Ga.He said that during a 1985 theatre reunion party we held after all of us being out of the business for almost ten years.I have that on DVD now.
Great Story.I too thought about putting my name on a Clint Eastwood Movie a couple of times.Snap a picture and take Clint’s name down,,oh I meant MINE.LOL.I had plenty of times to do it was just too lazy to go back up on the marquee,Really wish I had now,Hope you have the “ELVIS” picture.
Yes,larry1 and movie534 we were in a different and much better moviegoing time.Pictures were better.I hear a REMAKE of “TRUE GRIT” what else is next “DIRTY HARRY”.I am listing the AMC 16 as a Favorite. For Justin.
I visted it one time, told them I worked at GCC and wanted a tour. They gave me one,I think they have larger multiplex there now on the other side of the island. It was a nice theatre when i toured it.
JJd,I wish we could go back to the Single screens,Maybe a nice twin, but really no more.I managed some great single screens.A triple and Quad at GCC,but my first love was the 781 seat National Hills ,70mm large screen, curtains that opened when the movie started.real showmanship sadly missing in these multiplexs. But if you have never caught a big movie on a large screen you really don’t know what you have missed.Yes,they changed for selling more screens in one location. How UA ruined NAtional Hills, making it a triple was a crime!Money,Money,Money, just need Joel Grey to sing it.lol.
We had a blasted pinball machine at Plitt. It too made noise, but I think we muted the sound.GCC had two video games by concesssion, but really did not have much room at REGENCY I,II and III.National Hills was robbed by a “bottle bandit” it made the AP.It is on NATIONALHILLS THEATRE Somewhere in all my ramblin’s, as i have been told by one CT member!
Well,No more film.It is coming.Funny thing when you took a print out often you could see the movie in frames of pictures.Often,I would get the projectionist to clip out a frame if it wasn’t scope.Be hard to do that with a disc,Well the union got run out of the booth with automation, now the non-union operators will get booted out.35mm Movie film just seems like movies.Old beat up film cans seem like movies.Glad I got out in 1983.
I think HILTON HEAD also has a downtown single screen theatre,or did not that long ago.I haven’t been there in almost a decade.
Just as long as we all stay on topic.LOL.
Well,doggone it I had TOO.

Hard to believe GCC was opening Cinemas while closing so many.Who was running my old theatre Chain?
Gary, they are about all gone.thank goodness CINEMA TREASURES is here.

Sounds like the theatre business.I got popped around a bit.
Very professional set up.
So that is a spam? I am new to this.Yes,they don’t need to be on here.I noticed this guy on a bunch of CT sites tonight.
Man,I could do such grand things with that Marquee, and would.
Okay.

That is what a Drive-in Theatre marquee should look like.
I am with you Ken.Film Guys,Film. With Cue marks and a bit of dirt on the print.
Not a bad looking theatre.
