moviebuff82 commented about AMC Loews Paramus Route 4 Tenplex on Apr 4, 2009 at 10:17 am

The Tenplex was the role model for what a multiplex should be in North Jersey. AMC really drove the place right into the ground when it closed the Tenplex and build up an expensive new theater right next to the busy Garden State Plaza mall. This is also the same thing with the new Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, two new stadiums for old teams that don’t look as memorable as the original but are technologically advanced.

I’ve been checking the showtimes for upcoming movies, and no movie says digital projection. When will it be installed at this theater?

moviebuff82 commented about Admissions up, concessions down during recession on Apr 2, 2009 at 8:58 pm

When I go to the movies, I just pay for the ticket and bring in a soda can just to enjoy the show and skip the long concession lines. What AMC is doing is very much similar to McDonald’s in the way people order food by number rather than by name.

Once all 16 screens are fitted with 4k, then people will come to this theater to experience what they can’t see on a blu-ray disc or on an HD cable service.

moviebuff82 commented about Sony to install digital projectors in all AMC theaters on Apr 1, 2009 at 8:48 pm

Not only that, but the only thing that’s digital playing at my local AMC are the Met shows and NCM Fathom shows.

I dunno….AMC at one time tried to show movies with 16mm projectors in the early years and it didn’t fare well.

Hopefully they play Toy Story in 3D…the first one.

Although this theater was one of the first to show “Star Wars: Episode I” digitally and that it shares the digital pre-show with other AMC theaters now that National Cinemedia does the preshow instead of Screenvision, it will probably not get the digital projection that other AMC theaters will get since it will close this summer to make room for the Kerasotes 14 plex, which is under construction.

Too bad ShoWest is not allowed for the public to attend, although internet junkies like me can follow the developments online and also on the business channel CNBC, which has allowed one reporter to cover the economics of the industry, which is experiencing its best year to date performance ever.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC to upgrade several screens for RealD on Mar 31, 2009 at 12:54 pm

Not only that, but AMC is also teaming up with Sony to install most of its screens with the SXRD 4K technology, which will eliminate the need for film by the year 2012 (rollout will begin in the second quarter of 2009).

Monsters vs Aliens did really well at the box office this weekend, with the 3-D version accounting for 56% of the gross. Hopefully they install 3-D in time for Terra Firma, which opens May 1st against the new X-Men movie, and Up, which is the first Pixar movie to be in 3-D.

During the weekday afternoons, Paul Appel tears tickets and directs the moviegoer to the nearest theater. He’s in a wheelchair and got his training from previous experience at the AMC in East Hanover through Employment Horizons, a non-profit employment agency that helps people with disabilities. He does a good job.

This coming Thursday, April 2, “Fast and Furious” will have an advanced screening for BP North America employees who work at the nearby Wayne office. BP’s Castrol product is featured in all four Fast and Furious movies, which have been played at this theater for a select number of people who wanted to go see this popular franchise. My stepmom is not going since she is busy doing work at the office.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Lincoln Square 13 on Mar 27, 2009 at 3:50 pm

Imax 3D didn’t start off in the Lincoln Square. It started out in Canada in 1986 with a film called “Transitions”. Back then, the only IMAX screen in town was the NatureMax theater in the American Museum of National History, which opened four years before that in 1982 and is still open.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Garden State 16 on Mar 27, 2009 at 3:42 pm

Is this theater the busiest of all the 16 screen AMC theaters in North Jersey? I think so, since Clifton’s not far behind and Rockaway is in third.

As a result, he transferred to that other AMC theater in Morris County, the rockaway location, and works there occasionally on weekends. His name is Paul Appel and lives in Rockaway.

To be determined. The same could be said of the AMC in Kips Bay, NYC.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Rockaway 16 on Mar 26, 2009 at 3:24 pm

One reason why is that RealD is cheap compared with IMAX Digital. As more and more 3d movies come out, newer theaters will have access to 3d projectors that they can use for 2d movies as well, as is the case with Clearview and other chains.

The sole transfer from which thousands of copies get transferred to theaters will also be used for home entertainment use, which is cost effective to every studio in the near future.
