Tina I knew your dad along with most of the Projectionists in Augusta having worked National Hills,Columbia 1 and 2 and the Imperial, later at Regency Mall.Any stories you can share would be great and pictures. All of Augusta’s theatres from the Silent movie days to now are on CT. Glad you found it.I have many projectionist stories on CT.Men your Dad knew.Oh, I wasn’t an operator, just in management.
Late Show by John Mackey,Big promotion with Flyers handed out all over Gastonia. “DEATH WISH” returns for a weekend Late show starting at 11:30 pm. Another big promotion with flyers{i have two} was the DOUBLE FEATURE “ELVIS THAT’S THE WAY IT IS” and “ELVIS ON TOUR” The shows ran close to three hours and Mackey said it was one of his highest grossing Late Shows.
October 25 1974 “The Clint Eastwood” of North Carolina,He wishes,Earl Owensby.Millionaire with some movie equipment makes “CHALLENGE” Rated PG and naturally it plays the Drive-ins.Usually Weis Drive-in would play A product. This was D at best.Second Feature,a real action Star,Charles Bronson in “THE STONE KILLER”.
August 30 1975 after having runs at Weis Cinema and National Hills"ONCE IS NOT ENOUGH" hits the Weis Drive-in with James Caan in the second hit and MUCH BETTER film,“THE GAMBLER”
NOt that I will ever waste my time scrolling down on this theatre,But what the heck is so big about this place other than it being in New York and a lot of people live up there.Noticed a lot of off Topic conversation that had nothing to do with the Ridgewood,Something I was critized for by other CT members on my favorite theatre, but with some 3000 posts who really cares.
NO i worked for ABC Southeasten Theatres in Augusta,National Hills theatre,IMPERIAL theatre and Columbia Square Cinemas as they are posted on CT.{Columbia 1 and 2 theatres,as i knew them}.Some folks say I write way too much about my theatres, also GCC in Athens and Augusta. I would love to see you dig back in your mind and really fill up the ARCADIA Theatre stories,Iknow you have hundreds, and then maybe some of the regulars on CT and get on your case.LOL. Can’t believe you had to buy your sports jacket.ABC even dryed cleaned them for us,We had one dark blue one at National Hills,But when I started our coats were a sort of Golden color.Never saved one of them.Keep some ARCADIA stories coming,Us old theatre managers Love them.
The Augusta Chroncile in their 225 year celebration in sunday’s paper August 29 2010 snubs the MILLER and the World Premiere of “THREE FACES OF EVE”.Really surprizes me.It was a huge Sunday paper,I guess I could have missed it,but I don’t think I did. THE IMPERIAL was shown Three times and a whole page was set aside for the LENOX THEATRE!
The Augusta Chroncile had their 225 anniversary in Sunday’s paper, August 29 2010.Big article on the Lenox.Showed a sign in the article that was posted at the theatre “COLORED ONLY..NO WHITES ALLOWED” also in the special edition was three pictures of the IMPERIAL.
Why do titles have to be so close.Yep, it was “THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN"Rated Pg. Thanks again.
Thanks jazzland.
