This is the only movie theater in Ramsey remaining after the closing of the Loews Interstate theater. Did most of the employees of the now gone Franklin theater in Nutley move to the Ramsey location along with the digital sound and projection equipment from that triplex?

Here’s something I found on the net: The Daily Record’s culture reporter, Matt Mannochio, is asking moviegoers in Morris County if they prefer AMC or Clearview. I got to talk with him after emailing him that I prefer AMC ‘cause of its close proximity and he knew that attendance at the Clearviews has dropped off since Rockaway opened. Go to dailyrecord.com and click on the updates section for more info.

thanks, mike d. Even though people still argue about this theater, I’m glad that the movies came back to Rockaway after a five year absence in a big and successful way. It completed a missing link in the mall, back when the only real hot spot in the mall was the FYE store and the Food Court. Too bad ticket prices at the new theater are more expensive than that of the old theater, which is the same at all AMC theaters. Currently, the company is making profits while withdrawing a comeback in the stock market. Hopefully with AMC Rockaway, Garden State 16, and newer theaters, they should recoup their debt and be in the black!!!

Good thing, since the closest theater to show 3D movies is either Parsippany or Succasunna, both with DLP systems that Rockaway doesn’t have!!!

I agree with you AlAlvarez. For me, the two best movie theaters in the Rockaway area where I live is the AMC in Rockaway, and the Clearview in Parsippany, both with great sound and picture and decent pricing.

Michael D, what is the #1 16-screener owned by AMC? I guess it’s the new movie theater in Paramus. One reason why the Rockaway location is number 2 is because of its easy to spot location near busy Route 80. It’s the only movie theater near that highway that is visible for commuters to see. Too bad the AMC in Rockaway doesn’t show NCM Fathom showings like the Met operas or revivals of old horror and 80’s movies in the digital format, something the Rockaway needs to improve to attract a huge crowd. Probably the two big theaters should be using the Real D projectors. BTW, how is security at the theater compared to the old one? So far, no reports of crime or vandalism outside the theater according to what I read in the Daily Record.

photoman1001, some of the theaters, such as four and five, have stadium seating. Were they the first stadium seating theaters to be formed out of the old one-screen theater to be located in Bergen County? BTW, you missed out on some theaters, such as #6.

good for the shoppers at Garden State Plaza who want to see a movie at the new movie theater in Paramus on days when the mall is closed; plenty of parking, indeed.

That’s a good thing. The only changes that were made to this theater was the addition of more theaters, which made the Loews theater the first megaplex in Passaic County long before Clifton Commons came along. That happened sometime around thanksgiving of 1996, when I went to see “Jingle All the Way” in one of the 14 screens, which at the time was the top grossing theater in that area. Even though Clifton Commons has drawn people away from this aging theater with its stadium seating and THX sound, the AMC Loews Wayne is still a decent theater to check out a movie, and is located near a major shopping mall despite being flood prone.

Just went to this theater for the first time in more than a year, and this theater needs more bathrooms. When compared to the monstrosity that is Rockaway, I went to a showing at theater 14, which is a long way from the bathrooms. Look like they’re repainting and renovating the restrooms since I last went there, and ticket prices have jumped up a bit even though they are still cheaper than Rockaway. Too bad this theater doesn’t have the DLP that the other two popular Clearviews (Succasunna and Parsippany) have. The movie I saw, Pirates 3, was a decent presentation with good sound and good projection.

nice photo; btw, anything new coming to the rockaway theater since opening late last year? It’s still a great place to see a movie, yet the management is a bit slow and the projection is not as sharp as a loews or a clearview theater.
