The rite aid might become a Walgreens due to the recent news about the aborted merger between the two companies.

Why did they name it Kameo instead of Cameo?

Like cinemascope and cinerama. Those were the biggies. Panavision didn’t even exist back then, and by the time the theater closed in 1954, vistavision was born.

What was the last movie that the RKO showed? Was it apes or 2001?

The Amboy was to central Jersey what the Route 4 and 17 theatres in paramus was to north jersey…showcase theatres that had the latest projection and sound technology to cater to a movie going audience. Sadly the theaters are no more, with this becoming an eyesore for travelers riding down the highway towards the shore at the bottom of the hill looking for a good movie or even going to the beach. I bet a lot of people will be excited to go to the movies again in Sayreville when Regal arrives there soon.

I saw Wonder Woman at theater #15 and when i came out of it after enjoying it i saw the blue christie packages. Can’t wait to try it out for the first time when the crowd dies down…it will be like when 3d first came to Rockaway as well as Imax digital.

Even though this theater wasn’t THX-certified like others, it had the best screen and sound system in the area.

I agree. Some people hate reserved seating since you can’t change your seat after the movie begins but it’s important for AMC’s business in the future. The imax has it, and dolby will have it. Yes, the projector is christie. Also recliners too. Ever since AMC returned to Rockaway it has overfilled the parking lot near the mall and is getting more visitors than the mall itself. Malls are dying, but movie theatres are thriving in an age of netflix and tv shows.

Went to see “Cars 3” in 3d in the auditorium right next to where they’re working on the Dolby Cinema at AMC. It’s moving along pretty good. As for the movie, it was properly framed somewhat and the audio was pretty normal. The 3d was fine. Not a lot of people at the screening yesterday. Ticket prices went up a bit to around $13 for regular, which is as expensive as it gets.

Sounds interesting. I wonder if they’ll have new projection and recliner seats?

I agree. My local AMC in rockaway when they play either scope or regular there’s the masking issue. It’s not an issue when I watch a movie on a flat screen tv but it’s worse when watching it on an overscan tube hdtv.

This theater suffered a major outage along with the rest of the area due to a malfunction in the power station in Wharton, NJ. Moviegoers got free passes when the theater was evacuated last Wednesday due to the power failure.

The popular podcast “Rebel Force Radio” references this theater, as well as its predecessor, “The Forcecast”, since one of the main hosts of the show grew up near this venue and saw his first star wars movie there, “Return of the Jedi”.

Later this month will be 15 years since the Outers were closed, leaving Rockaway without a a movie theater for more than four years until AMC returned to rockaway big time. I miss those twilight specials.

I heard from a friend of mine on fb he enjoyed the new Transformers movie in Imax 3d. 98 percent of the film was shot in digital imax 3d. To put that to perspective, the next two avengers movies next year and the year after that will be the first films to be shot fully in Imax 2d then converted into 3d. Dunkirk was shot in that format too, but was filmed using real film and not digital like avengers. Advance tickets for the 70mm version go on sale this friday. I highly doubt AMC in Rockaway will pay a lot of money to project the film on a screen that’s kinda small for that format. The AMC in Paramus did 70mm for Hateful Eight and did quite well.
