The Hermiston Drive-In opened quietly on November 14th, 1980 with two screens and the Grove-Drive-In with the projection booth serving the drive-in as well. on March 25th, 1988 the cinema no. 2 was split up for a total of 3 indoor screens. An extension on the east side of the building opened on June 25th, 1993 for a total of 5 screens plus the drive-in. The drive-in’s last season was 1998 and the theatre closed on April 29th, 2004.
The last season for the drive-in was 1998 with the “Grove Drive-In” nameplate last used in 1990. The projection booth was relocated to the Hermiston Tri-Cinema in time for the 1981 season.
This was taken over by Carmike Cinemas in 1990 and expanded to 11 screens on April 21st, 2000. It was taken over by Marquee Cinemas on February 1st, 2002 and closed in 2005.
