Meadow six opened in June 1982. The Plaza 8 opened in 1987 according to New York Magazine. https://books.google.com/books?id=IeUCAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA66&dq=loews+plaza+8&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjAtbTi54HKAhULmx4KHZ4gAQs4MhDoAQgkMAA
I agree with your comment, alpinedownhiller. I’ve seen trailers for movies not coming out in imax shot in flat being shown windowboxed as related to a comment describing the issue while scope trailers span the entire middle of the screen. No masking in the imax screen which is great. Non imax trailers usually get the amc logo and release date along with film logo and rating at the end of each trailer. IMAX trailers usually show the green or red band before the trailer after the crosscheck.
last night star wars held its world premiere that was live streamed by verizon on its website and on fios tv. tightened security as well as lots of fans, stars, and artists. Everyone seems to like it so far.
According to fandango @poland626, Chipmunks 4 is not in 3d and there are regular showtimes. Point Break has reald 3d showtimes only while Star Wars has Imax showtimes. This is the only location in NJ to host the two day marathon and tickets are still available.
@thebrat when i went to see Mockingjay Part 2 in Imax the audio was just perfect as opposed to Spectre where it was too loud. Ticket prices went up a few weeks ago but not that much. This place needs a redo soon as some of the seats are worn out.
maybe when they moved the old Empire building out west from its old location to make room for the 25 screens there were older bedbugs that creeped into the multiplex.
i agree. You mean laser, ridethectrain. Batman v Superman will probably have legs in its imax run before Captain America Civil War kicks off the summer movie season. I think the atmos screen will show Star Wars in better projection than the imax as that movie was mixed in Atmos.
I Agree, amcbayplaza 13. Mhvbear, this is a popular location since most big movies open here before they roll out nationwide. As for the food they sell, it has changed a lot since it opened in 1994 given the eating habits of the moviegoing public. The ticket prices, the same. My advice for the moviegoer who needs to drive to the city, take the trains and buses as parking near the theater can be as hard as trying to find a space at Yankee Stadium or MSG.
http://www.polygon.com/2015/10/1/9432529/playstation-theater-times-square-nyc-best-buy i heard about it on facebook. They should change the name on CT. BTW Sony used to have the naming rights to this theater when it was Sony Astor Plaza.
If only a single screen theater like this one showed the new star wars movie just like the Original trilogy…remember when Star wars was reissued in 1997 the astor chose not to show it as the rival ziegfeld from cineplex odeon got the rights to show it as well as the prequels when it became a clearview due to the loews cineplex merger. If the ziegfeld closes, as it was with Loews 72nd st, then an era of single screen non-imax palaces are over…
I agree. The last time i saw a real imax movie was probably fantasia 2000 at the former Imax at Palisades Center. That was pretty good even though the screen was small 70mm imax compared to the monstrosity that is Lincoln Square. I think I’ve been to more Liemax movies than real IMAX movies. At least the liemax in Rockaway NJ is the biggest of all the auditorium screens at the theater but with fewer seats than theater #9 which has 360 seats. Once the laser installation is done they should put in recliners for every screen except the imax and put in the AMC logo to replace the loews theaters signage as that is going away soon.
According to Fandango, this theater will show the new James Bond movie Spectre next weekend after the Martian concludes its month long run in 3D. No word on if Star Wars: The Force Awakens will play at this theater given that advance tickets were put out last week.

@alpinedownhiller he was my favorite ticket taker he always enjoyed watching movies for free at the theater. I just saw “Everest” in real d 3d in theater #13 and that screen has 3d separation issues unlike what you see on a 3d tv or even the 3d digital imax screen. The movie was very good and the audio perfect.
Tickets for Spectre already on sale, with Hunger Games to follow in October and Star Wars in a few weeks. The Imax is showing Everest a few weeks before it’s on other screens, with The Walk to follow. Jurassic World is still going strong more than three months after it came out..what movies had the longest engagements at this theater since it opened? I think Star Wars will break the record when it opens in 90 days.
Has anyone seen The Hateful Eight in 70mm in the loews auditorium?

On a lighter note, how is Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime? Star Wars is playing there.
just in time for star wars

Both are equal, waterguy56.

This theater will show The Hateful Eight in 70mm when it opens on Xmas Day next week.

Hope they go away by the time Star Wars opens….I rarely go to Times Square anymore.
I agree, mharmon999. The Paris is to indie and foreign films what the Ziegfeld is to blockbusters.

great article, Xavier. I never heard of this theater until i heard the tragic news. I knew the band that played there, they have a cult following.

hallelujah!!! Will they show it in 3d as well as 2d versions?
