City Cinemas maintained their theatres but I will no longer patronize them since the Sutton closing and now that Cinema 1-2-3 is next. Much depends on the individual theatre and it’s management. The Beekman is still a wonderful movie going experience as is the Paris. I have not been to the Zeigfeld in a year but last time I was there it was still in great shape.
The only theatre I was ever in where the orchestra no longer existed was a dollor house in Scranton Pa. I dont recall the name or if it still exists. It may have been called The Strand.
Since Radio City is no longer the exclusive movie house it once was, they could most definately play a film like “Lord of the Rings”, “Spongebob” or any Disney feature when it opens for general release. Put a stage show with it and charge $20.
Does the front look better then the picture above? I guess the narrative should be changed since the theatre is now a screening facility, and is not closed.
These people are a bunch of greedy low lifes, this is a sure sign the cinemas are goners. Not that they have many locations left, but I stopped attending any of their theatres after the Sutton fiasco. I guess they dont care, they can laugh all the way to the bank with the millions they will get from putting another skyscraper there. Any class the cinemas had anyways were destroed with the triplexing and their bookings are no better then a Long Island UA.
I posted this theatre under it’s original name Fox Plaza North & South. Only South had Cinerama (70mm single projector). This was a real mess when they made it 6 theatres it had weird hallways that ran all over like a maze. I wish I had a blueprint to see what the actual setup was.

I despise this whole sing-a-long thing.
Sometimes theatres put more then one number on the marquee for when they run split screens.
I have never seen anything in DLP, how does it compare?
I was wondering the same thing when I read the name.
I am a huge Sinatra fan and have never heard this?
My friend ran this theatre for about a year. Even when it ran regular movies it was a sex house.
I think that when I saw The Promise in 1979, it was $5 for eve shows. I was there the last day.
Another classic matron story. I wish we had a big coffee table picture book with all of them in it.
Had they kept the orchestra they could have made this a real multi-plex.
It’s hard to believe we now pay $100 for what we used to spend $5 for with a movie.
Even in 1957 they were making them drug stores.

If only there was a fair balance between the “crap” and classic movies.
Sad to say New York will probably never see Cinerama again :(
Why Hasent Clear Channel looked at the Forest Hills Tennis Stadium, which once hosted incredible concerts like the Beatles and Frank Sinatra?
BOYCOTT CITY CINEMAS- Read the postings on the page for Cinema 1,2,3. They may be pulling another Sutton scam.
Did the Paradise ever have a conventional marquee or was it always flat? I saw an old picture somewhere that appeared to be of the standard variety.

Has anyone been by to see if this is being gutted?
What a beautiful building and theatre, the city council should be shot.
This was a true neighborhood theatre.
