DriveInTheatre2001 commented about Ritz Theatre on May 27, 2010 at 12:24 am

I have a photo of the RITZ I got from the Historical Society here in Waxahachie. The RITZ used to sit on the South East Corner facing the Old Courthouse. It was razed after the fire and now that lot is a parking lot.. The photo I have shows an Old Pontiac Stationwagon, around the early 60’s model, in front of the Theatre. Waxahachie actually had 3 Walk Ins! The DIXIE which became the TEXAS, the RITZ, and the EMPIRE. And, Waxahachie also had a Drive In Theatre! Called “The ELLIS Drive In Theatre”. I have photos of the Marquee, which still stands today in a clump of trees! Seen Here:. View link .. Also, THe Theatre that was located right off of Hwy 77 is now closed. The NEW ShowBiz is right off Hwy 287, as is a Multi-Screen. Seen here:. View link .. Enjoy!!

At one time, THis Drive In was going to be re-opened, back in 1999/2000 if I remember correctly, BUT The plans fell thru.. It is used, I believe by Waste Management, for storing their dumpsters…….

The name of the drive in across Interstate 30 is/was The MEADOWBROOK Drive In. It is being used as a Holding place for Dumpsters for “I Think” Waste Management.. The Screen is in decent condition still, after all of these years of sitting not being used. at one time, someone was going to try to re-open the MeadowBrook. BuT, that fell thru……

I went to see a few movies here growing up in the Mid to late 1960’s! ‘House of Dark Shadows’ and ‘Jungle Book’ to name a couple. It was a bit sad to see that is had been demolished. Luckly, I took a couple of pictures of it about 6 months before………

This Theatre is Gutted. No Ceiling, no nothing really. Just a shell. The Marquee is still there tho. If you go to the back, you can ‘peek’ in to see the inside. You can still see the balcony section. Or what is left of it. I took some pictures of the Theatre. I’ll try to send some……

DriveInTheatre2001 commented about Jefferson Drive-In on Jul 17, 2005 at 10:18 pm

Correct..
This was used to park “Big Trucks”. Some kind of Trucking company I think. It had Only One Screen. The “Twin” was further down Jefferson going towards Grand Prairie and it had Two Screens. (The Twin has been gone now for some time). DISD bought the land to build an Elementary School in its' Place. Nothing remains of the Jefferson now. I Took some 60+ pictures of it before it was demolished. You can see some of them on .. www.drive-ins.com ..

I have Pictures of the Inside and Outside of the Mission “Walk-In” Theatre. It was demolished to make a parking lot for the Bank next door. The HI-VUE Drive In has been closed now for about 30 years. It is slowly crumbling down. In Bad Condition.

I, Myself, Believe it was Arson. Why else would it had caught on fire? Now whether it was intentional or accident is the question. The Drive In was Not in use at the time. The Killeen Drive In screen in Killeen burned several years ago. I was Told that Kids started it. Kids being somewhere they should'nt had been. What it sounds like to me…….. Just my thoughts……

The Astro Drive In had 3 Screens. The #3 Screen was the one that measured 9 stories tall and 140 feet wide. I was there a Month before it burned. It was still a nice Drive In and the Employees were nice too. An unfortunate and sad day for Drive In fans around the Dallas/Ft.Worth Area….
