Opened February 1st, 1945. small article posted.
I worked there for a while. One of the films I projected was Superman. The most interesting theing about the Lake was it had a dumbwaiter from the lobby to the projection booth to transport prints
Saw Fugazi perform here—Beat Happening opened.
Only saw a few films here when young but it seemed large and had a very plush curtain that was used before and after the show. They showed 1st run films mostly. It had quite a lot of style and loved the marquee. Art moderne.
I mean it looks like something I would have done, when you get a “nut” like me in a theatre it shows on the Marquee.
Yes indeed.
Very nice Marquee, done by someone who cared, would have moved the rating down, but an A plus marquee one the few i have seen at Modern theatres.
I saw every BIG movie of my youth at this GREAT theater. The first two SUPERMAN films (the line for SUPERMAN II was so long it went around the corner!) and the first two STAR TREK films, yes, this is where I saw ST: THE WRATH OF KHAN! (RIP Ricardo Montalban)
Also saw THE GALAXY EXPRESS/POPEYE here in 1980 and NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN in 1983!
For me, this theater had all the CHARM in the world!
