This blog contains a very high quality shot of the theater probably sometime after closure (circa 2001)

This photo also appears in several Florida Facebook groups claiming that it is the AMC Omni 10 in Miami. While the layout is probably the same or similar, they are two distinct locations.

The Carolina Circle Mall itself opened in November of 1975,some five months after the opening of the Four Seasons Mall as one of the Triad’s two largest indoor mall. The Carolina Circle was Greensboro’s second largest indoor shopping center consisting of three major department stores…BELK, MONTGOMERY WARD, and IVEY’S(aka DILLARD’S)with over 200 specialty stores and services. The theatre, located on the lower level of the mall next to Piccadilly Cafeteria, didn’t opened until November of 1976.

Mike Rogers and Michael Coate: I have found the original ad from the Greensboro News and Record on the Grand Opening of the Carolina Circle Mall Cinema 6 or the Circle 6. The ad was from November 12, 1976 of the News and Record and this information about this theatre will be posted later on this site. I also have the grand opening ads for the Janus Theatres and also the Terrace Theatre at Friendly Center. FYI: Did you know that the Carolina Circle Mall Cinemas was the first AMC Theatre to be established in the state of North Carolina? AMC’s first multiplex foray in the greater Greensboro-Triad market in 1976.

FYI: The Carolina Circle Mall Cinemas 6 was the first theatre in the state of North Carolina that was under
the AMC Theatres banner when it opened in November of 1976. The first in North Carolina and the first for Greensboro.

Now,AMC Theatres operates three theatres in the greater Metro Charlotte area including one in Concord, and they’re getting ready to open up another one set to open in North Raleigh very soon near Triangle Towne Center.

I remember coming to this theatre back in the 1980’s when the Carolina Circle Mall in Greensboro became the happening place to be…this mall had it all and then some….a ice skating rink(located in the center of the shopping center),three department stores(which were anchored by Belk,Ivey’s-aka Dillard’s and Montgomery Ward)and the six-screen theatre located on the lower level of the mall. However,it was part of the AMC Theatre chain before becoming part of the Carmike Cimemas. I saw “School Daze” at the Carolina Circle once before a capacity crowd during one of there bargain matinees.

Incidently, why are none of the other downtown theaters listed on this site?I remember in the early sixties seeing atleast three theaters on the downtown core, plus a black theater of some size.

The entire plot was recently leveled and new shops are being built. It is strange to see a huge mall leveled, would make my wife weep.
