The Amherst Drive-In opened on April 11, 1952 with John Payne in “Crosswinds”. It had an advertised capacity for 1,000 cars. It was closed in fall of 1977. The Amherst Drive-In has been demolished and replaced by a shopping center.

This drive-in was located at 4035 S Amherst Hwy.

An article in the April 7, 1952 edition of the Lynchburg Daily Advance reported that this drive-in would open at 6pm that night and had a capacity for 520 cars. Operated by Neighborhood Theater, Inc. of Richmond.
April 11th, 1952 Grand opening ad posted.
Last season: 1977. It was closed during the winters.
