Originally opened as the Empire Theatre, an African-American vaudeville theatre which had opened by 1921. It was renovated and reopened on August 25, 1935 as the Harrison Theatre screening movies, and operated by Lichtman Theatres. It was named after the negro actor Richard B. Harrison. This was an African-American theatre with seating listed at 395. From 1945 until its closing in 1959 it was operated by Bedford Theatres. It has since been demolished.

A comment by architect George A. Eheling in the September 22, 1948 issue of The Exhibitor says that he designed the Harrison Theatre in Lynchburg.
Needs status corrected to demolished.
