The 764-seat Plaza Theater was located in the Pittman Plaza shopping center (now known as just the Plaza shopping center). It was opened on November 21, 1963 with a triple bill program: Kirk Douglas in “For Love or Money”, James Stewart in “Take Her, She’s Mine” & Robert Cummings in “Beach Party”. On May 21, 1976 it had been remodeled and two additional screens added to the lower level. Closed by Carmike in July 1991. It was demolished in summer of 2019.

Went to several movies there in high school, including “Micki and Maude”, “The Ice Pirates”, “Hardbodies”, “Weekend Pass”, “A View To A Kill”, and “2010: The Year We Make Contact”.
Listings for Lynchburg, VA, so far do not include the 4 screens at River Ridge Mall or the Boonsboro Shopping Center. I went to plenty of movies at both. I’m surprised they aren’t listed here.

Carmike operated this theater until its new 8-plex (now Venue Cinemas) was opened in July of 1991.
According to the Lynchburg News and Advance of October 25, 1962, the proposed movie theater in the Pittman Plaza Shopping Center would be leased to the Stewart & Everett chain, and had been designed by the architectural firm of Charles H. Wheatley & Associates.
The 764-seat single-screener opened in late 1963.
The Plaza theatre was located at 2323 Memorial Avenue at the south end of the Plaza shopping center. It opened on November 21st, 1963. Grand opening ad posted.
