Opened as the Perry Theater in 1912. At some point the name was changed to the Family Theater. The Family Theater was closed in May 1985 and became a clothing store.

Regarding The Family Theater in Hazard, Ky: Someone has posted it “was still open at least into the 1970’s.” Replace that with the actual closing date. The last movie ever shown at the Family Theater in Hazard, Ky was Witness" with Harrison Ford. The Family Closed in May of 1985.

On June 14, 1942, the theater’s 2,500-pound marquee collapsed and crushed six people, killing a 65-year-old Combs woman and injured five others. According to investigators, workmen were working on the marquee when the collapse happened.
The former theatre is a clothing store now. Address is 561 Main Street. Function should be retail.
