Grand Vue Drive-In

The Grand Vue Drive-In Theatre launched on October 22, 1949 with Jean Simmons in “Blue Lagoon”. It had a capacity for 300-cars. J. C. Amusement Company ran the venue which switched screen towers in 1954 to accommodate widescreen projection and the showing of CinemaScope titles. Unfortunately, two people were killed installing the tower by electrocution.

Heavy rain between January 20, 1957 and February 2, 1957 led to flooding at the Grand Vue Drive-In leading to another screen tower, some 60'x80' with an increase to 500 vehicles. The Grand Vue Drive-In closed twenty years later in 1977 to make way for the Grand Vue Plaza Shopping Center The last billing was on March 13th 1977 with a double feature of Clint Eastwood in “Hang ‘em High” and Robby Benson in “Ode to Billy Joe".
