Theatre sold for $34,000 on e-bay, I recieved pic’s from the owner this is a nice little theatre! looking at the pictures it looks like the place closed a few weeks, not years ago, a vacume cleaner and some elbow grease to clean the place up is all this needs, the two projectors in the booth and the work benches look like someone was there yesterday! great shape. don’t know if the town could support this lost treasure. I wish I could find something like this on the east coast!

The State opened in 1952 and closed in late ‘85 or early '86. Will find and post a pic of opening day. It is very well preserved- surprisingly original and complete inside. I believe it to be the last remaining intact and un altered adobe movie house in the country. It is not “abandoned” as some have suggested on other sites, just closed. The townsfolk keep a guarded eye on this their little treasure in hopes of it perhaps opening again someday soon..

I’m a local at Sierra Blanca, Texas. I used to go to this theatre in the 70’s and 80’s. My mom used to go to the theatre in the 50’s and 60’s, and the same people that ran it in the 50’s, ran it in the 80’s. They were very proud of their theatre, that is why it is such good shape still.
