Mooresville IN to open today 5/12/71

Opened as the Jerry Lewis Cinema on May 12, 1971 with John Wayne in “Rio Lobo”. It had a seating capacity listed at 336. Was renamed the Mooresville Cinema on September 13, 1972 when the Jerry Lewis chain folded. It was designed by architectural firm Mallia & Rondunone of New York.

I could not find when the Mooresville Cinema closed, but it still stands empty.

The old Jerry Lewis/Mooresville Cinema building is still standing today. It is now empty but after it’s movie days, housed several other businesses. It is located in The Village on Indiana St. close to the well known Gray’s Cafeteria. During it’s 70’s prime, there used to be a Burger Chef and Jeff adjacent to it where everyone hung out after the movies.

I have heard they will be reopening, not sure of a date though. I hope it’s soon.

The Mooresville Cinema closed in 1991 when the newer triplex opened nearby on 300 Southbridge Street, which would become an eight-screener in 1998 followed by a four-year closure from 2008 until 2012 (it’ll have its own CT page soon).
