Similar to the Fridays Plaza as best I can recall, was on the wrong side of the road, the AMC 8 (closed and replaced by a 24) and Storey (now Regal) were closer to the mall and much more popular. In a shopping center that has been partially demolished to make way for a Wal-Mart, this theater has been gutted and refitted for retail. Opened August 12, 1988 it operated as a dollar house for the majority of its life. Typical pink neon, teal, black Cineplex Odeon of the day.

It was closed by Carmike Cinemas in 2000 and was taken over by an independent operator, finally closing around 2005 and going into retail use.

I saw “Blackhawk Down” there. I believe it had started the dollar circulation by then. The building reminded me of 70’s cheese, and I couldn’t get enough of it. Glad I got to experience it…

Interesting to hear it was a cousin, to the Friday’s Plaza theatre.

This theater is claimed to have been closed in 2000, which doesn’t make sense because I remember it still being open prior to 2005.

It was probably being run by someone else by then, though.

Carmike took it over after Cineplex, but it only lasted a short time. Next up was EFW, a bit of a sketchy operator, who I was told was thrown out due to non-payment of rent. The landlord then ran it briefly with the old EFW staff to help them recoup their pay that EFW never made. That arrangement didn’t last long and it was closed up for good to the best of my knowledge. It wasn’t a bad theater for its time, it was always just in third place behind AMC and Storey/Regal and had the least desirable location.

I remember seeing Men in Black II at this theater when it was open back in late 2002 when I was younger and it was a nice experience. Good times.

I wonder if someone has pictures of this place when it was still in operation.
