Regal Town Center Stadium 16

One of the last cinemas opened under the Storey Theatre’s banner, the Town 8 Theatre was top of the line in every detail; decorative auditoria each equipped with state of the art projection and sound, tear-drop curtains in the 70mm auditorium and vertical in the 35mm venues which opened at the beginning of the feature presentation and closed after the last credit rolled.

In 1999 when Regal acquired the cinema it was expanded to 16 screens, each with stadium seating, and the main entrance was moved to the west end of the multiplex. It reopened November 19, 1999. Part of the original interior of the 70mm auditorium has been moved into the main auditorium of the new wing. It was closed on March 16, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was announced in October 2020 that the closure would be permanent.

My wife and I saw The Lighthouse the evening of October 25, 2019. I added some pictures from the lobby. I would have gotten our auditorium, but it was too dark for pictures… even with the “Noovie” playing!

I think this was the last operating facility of the old Storey chain.

If there are any CT readers with an emotional attachment to this location, and I doubt there are, you might want to plan a visit to take a last look as a developer is requesting rezoning. No word on the actual plan but the zoning requested would allow for the construction of one of those Live, Work, Play developments that are so popular now. The signs are posted around the pie shaped area between the mall ring road, I-575, and the commercial development to the north so the mall proper is not involved unless perhaps it’s current zoning already allows for such.

Picture added to the photo section.

This theatre’s physical condition has deteriorated very quickly: https://youtu.be/nmM-SrxNdag

This is not a very good video. It has a total of about five minutes of interesting shots of the lobby, auditoriums, booth, and bathroom. The other 30 minutes is closeups of the people making the video, their commentary, with very little visible in the background. Their comments, such as their assumption that the roaches were there only because the theater was closed, indicate that they never worked in an operating theater.

It is too bad that they did not show more of the theater and less of themselves. The theater is still mostly intact with little damage visible and no vandalism. The means that this is NOT a video on the Regal Town Center because aside from the screen count being wrong, the Town Center has been very heavily vandalized. Apparently they did visit the Town Center because their FB page has some pictures of the actual Town Center 16. Maybe somewhere along the line the wrong video got attached.

A picture of the old Storey Town Center 8 / Regal 16 in its current decrepit state is posted in the photos. I’m surprised the current owners don’t put this place out of its misery if for no other reason than reducing their property tax bill. It is also surprising that the local government doesn’t require its demolition as it will obviously never be used for anything again and in its current state is a public nuisance.

Agreed. I am not of so called “talking heads” videos.
