The Cinema 6 opened on June 10, 1970 with John Wayne in “The Undefeated” & Jerry Lewis in “Way… Way Out”. In 1995, it was under new ownership and closed in 2001 for the first time. Nostalgia opened the theatre again in 2002. It showed it’s last show in 2005.
The owners said, in the spring of 2006, major repairs were needed for the concession and washroom facilities and fewer and fewer people were going to the shows.
Only six drive-ins remain in Saskatchewan – a province that has housed more than twenty such theatres since they started to appear on the Prairies in the 1950’s. There were 54 drive-ins left in Canada in 2004, down from 68 in 1999. Such a sad sight.
