The Northwood Park Cinema 1 & 2 was opened by General Cinema on December 20, 1974. It was taken over by Regal in 1993, and after 3 years it was operated by an independent operator. In November 1998 it became the Northwood Cinema Grill.
Seating is either at tables or at a counter top with a full waiter staff and full menu including beer and wine. It was closed on March 16 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It reopened on June 19, 2020 and closed two weeks later. It reopened September 4, 2020 and finally closed October 29, 2020. It was announced on December 29, 2020 that the closure would be permanent.

This theater originally was the Northwood Park 1 & 2 and opened in the late 70s by General Cinema. In 1993, it was taken over by Regal Cinemas and was closed 3 years later. A local couple remodeled the the theater and removed the theater seating and replaced it with tiered tables & chairs and added a kitchen. The Northwood Cinema Grill reopened in the late 90s and still has 2 auditoriums. Seating capacity was reduced. They run 1st run movies and offer a basically a sandwich and appetizer menu with beer and wine. It has been very well received as it is the only movie house on the very populated northeast section of Fort Wayne.
The former General Cinema became the long-running Northwood Cinema Grill in 1998 reopening with “There’s Something About Mary” and “What Dreams May Come.” The twin screener closed on March 16, 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. It reopened June 19th for two weeks closing until September 4, 2020 for what turned out to be its final run. The Cinema Grill closed on October 29, 2020 with “The War With Grandpa” and a Halloween repertory run of “Hocus Pocus.” Plans to reopen at Thanksgiving with “The Croods 2” were scrapped and then the operators announced on December 29, 2020 that the closure would be permanent. It was one of many theatres closed permanently during the pandemic.
The first film I remember seeing at Northwood (back when it was a General Cinema theater) was “Jaws” in June of 1975. I was unable see it on my first attempt back then, as all shows were sold out, so I had to return the following day—heralding the dawn of the summer blockbuster.
