Ronnie21, I believe what Myron is referring to is the marquee of the theater, where what was showing was placed, in big plastic letters that slid into a track. When the church took over the building, they put the Church name on the marquee. There were two sides to that marquee, so traffic in both directions could see what was playing. There was never a sign in the parking lot, that I remember. That parking lot was a shared lot, with the other businesses that were in the center.

Myron, wow thanks for the info, really interesting to know that it was a church from 81-83, so it sat empty from 83-87 that it was demolished. Wow, I wish we could get a hold on of some rare photos of the theater circula 78-81. One thing I never knew is that there was a sign that advertised what movie was showing, was it in the parking lot so it could be seen on the highway? and what was the inside like when you got to it?? was it run down? by 1980 thanks….
Hi Ronnie My name is Myron and looking for any pictures or archive about the old movie theater which turn into a church that I belong to until the freeway brought us out and we had to relocate back into Wilmington To answer on how long the church was there we moved in and remodeled the place is late November and December 1980 and move in January 1981 and moved out 1983 Would love to see any pictures if any are out there specially the picture that we use for the big Billboard Theater sign and we put the church logo and name on it which was called DELIVERANCE CITY
It closed on October 12th, 1980! The last movie was “Mother’s Day”. It was a Sunday. Last showing was at 9:15 pm.
It closed oct 12th 1980, but not much else is known except for that it was turned into a church for all people, but when? by 1987 it was demolished. I wonder how long the church lasted from ?? and would love to see some recent photos from the late 70’s for the theater..
wow, saw that article and it showed the screen room with the seats. I wonder how much run down it looked in it’s last year 1980, which it shown horror movies only.. If anyone can find any photos from 78-80 that would be cool..
Articles about the opening of the Edge Moor Theatre appeared in the Wilmington Sunday Morning Star of November 30, 1941. The new house had opened the previous Wednesday. One article reveals that the Edge Moor Theatre was designed by architect Armand de Cortieux Carroll.
Theater shown mostly the current crop of horror films that came through town in 1980.. among them Don’t go in the house. The shining. Friday the 13th, Zombie. He knows your alone. Silent Scream. and Prom Night.

My next door nighbors operated the Edge Moor Theater, They also owned and operated the Spring Lake Recreation center in Glenn Mills PA. I lost track of the Family, but thier name was Cadone (sp) I still live in Wilmington, DE. JL
This is where my mom took me and my cousin to see JAWS in the summer of ‘75 when i was 10 yrs. old. I don’t remember much about the theater other than it was a matinee, crowded and had very soft comfortable seats.

Can anyone give me info on the Cinemart on Gov Prinz? I can’t find any info anywhere, but, I stop to look at it every time I’m in the area. What a mystery. The only thing I can tell is that I was built in the 60’s due to the chandelier and font on the front sign.
