Opened on October 18, 1974 as part of the ginormous Lake Forest Plaza shopping mall, located in New Orleans East. Owned & operated by Gulf States Theatres, 4 screens with a groovy 1970’s design. consisted of one very large auditorium, one large and two smaller sized ones. In 1995 the larger screen was split into two. The Plaza Cinema 5 closed in 2002.
Flooded by hurricane Katrina in 2005, it demolished along with the entire mall in 2006. At the time of Katrina, Lake Forest Plaza was a dead mall, and it had been replaced by a free standing stadium style 8 screen Grand Theatre opened in 2002 in a parking lot area of the mall…this was a last ditch attempt effort at revitalizing the mall. It also flooded by Katrina.

This opened on October 18th, 1974. The grand opening ad has been posted here.
In its day, Plaza Cinema 4 was a great place to work and a very good theater, state of the art when opened. I worked there in high school and college with many wonderful folks. I found a few picks in case any of them ever google this…
I saw E T there in the summer of 1982 , also the rest room was located on the second floor of the theatre. Also back in 1995 they split one of the larger screen to give the theatre five screens as a dollar cinema before the theatre closed down in 2000 or 2001.
January 20th, 1995 grand opening ad posted.
