In 1953 Shreveport had the following theaters:
Downtown – Strand, Majestic, Don, Joy, Saenger
Neighborhood – Rex, Centenary, Broadmoor, Glenwood, Davis (Bossier),
West End, Grove, Venus, Star, Ritz (the last two for
Blacks only)
Drive-Ins – Don, Joy, Leo, King’s Hwy, Barksdale, Sunset
From the 1940s, a newsprint photo of the Joy Theater in Shreveport with a parade passing by.
From 1947, a newspaper ad for a Laurel and Hardy movie at theJoy Theater in Shreveport.
No big surprize,it was owned by Joy’s Theatres out of New Orleans.
This opened on March 27th, 1941. Its grand opening ad can be found in the photo section for this theatre.
