This was a replacement to an earlier Holiday Drive-In which was located on 30th Street. This drive-in operated from 1969 to 1988. The property was abandoned and deteriorating, although there had been some local interest in preservation. It was eventually demolished.

The original Holiday Drive In was entered from 28th Street. The drive was a long one. When 30th Street was cut though in the 1960s, the sign and the entrance were moved to 30th Street, and the old two-block drive from 28th became a city street. The entire operation was moved to North 28th Street and Lee Hill Road. I don’t know when it became a twin.
So the famous sign has actually been in three places. It has been restored, but it is in the twin form.

A more accurate address for this version of the drive in is 1570 Lee Hill Dr, Boulder, CO 80304. This points directly to the entrance road. Now Dignity Care.

The Rocky Mountain News reported on May 3, 1996 that the city had ordered the Holiday Twin’s owners to securely board up the concession stand building, which had become a magnet for transients.
“Transients also have taken shelter under one of the screens, toppled in strong winds, (assistant Boulder fire chief) Stolz said. The old drive-in theater, which closed in 1989, is for sale, listed at $5 million to $6 million.”
