Metropole Cinema
Birkirkara

The largest and newest of Birkirkara'a cinemas, the Metropole is now a plumbing and electrical warehouse, having been totally gutted inside for this use. It had a single balcony and was probably around 1,600 seats. It would appear to date from the 1930’s.

When I was a kid, I used to watch movies in this cinema. I remember that it was the only cinema in Malta with a sliding roof. I am trying to find articles about the history of cinema in Malta. There were other cinemas in Birkirkara. I remember the Prince (Valley Rd) and the Ritz (John Borg Str)
My family owned the Metropole Theatre and we are in the process of creating a website about it. If you have any materials they would be much appreciated (my email is ). You’re welcome to visit www.metropoletheatre.com
