Located in the Jonesboro Heights district of Sanford, NC. The Center Theatre was designed and opened by John W. Freeman. It opened on September 12, 1946 with John Payne “Sentimental Journey”. Later operated by the Stewart & Everett chain in the 1960’s. It was closed on November 22, 1971 with “Potpourri”. It found use for sporadic live theatre events until finally closing with film use on June 14, 1977.
It became a beauty salon, then a cosmetology school and by 2021 it was a cafe, which had closed by February 2024 and the building was ‘For Lease’.

Also the building remains as of February 2024, the last time the Googlemobile passed it by, therefore it should be not listed as demolished.
Final day of performances as a cinema is June 14th, 1977.
