This new luxury five-screen cinema opened December 12, 2008 in uptown Charlotte. It is run by Florida-based IPic Entertainment and offers state of the art technology along with regular concessions, high end food and alcohol. It is restricted to 21 and older after 7 PM.
It is the first new commercial theater built in uptown Charlotte in seventy years since the Tryon Theatre opened in 1938 and the first cinema to operate in uptown in thirty years since the Carolina Theatre closed in 1978. It was closed in early-2020.

And this begs the question: if an upscale theatre could be built for uptown Charlotte, why couldn’t the funds have gone to save the Carolina?
The EpiCentre Theaters project was designed by the Charlotte architectural firm ADW Architects.

Web site states this location has closed after recently opening another theater at Prosperity Village in the suburbs.
