Opened in 1911, the Lamoni Coliseum originally was a live playhouse and concert hall. In 1925, the theater was acquired by Graceland University.
The theater has served primarily as a movie house since that time, and also is used by the university for classes and other events. In the late-1950’s, the name of the theatre was changed to the Collegian Theatre, but was later returned to its original name. There is a no-alcohol dance club in the theatre’s basement, called Choices, which opened in 1985.
The Coliseum Theatre was remodeled in the early-1990’s, including new restrooms, new projectors, concession area, and box office.

This is the only theater listed in the 1914-15 AMPD, so it was showing movies at that point. The 1916 map calls it an opera house, the 1932 map calls it a Latter Day Saints theater and hall.
