The Drive-In was the first drive-in theatre in the Carolinas. It was opened by Ed Harris on July 24, 1940 with Ginger Rogers in “Vivacious Lady” and held 438 cars. It was later renamed South 29 Drive-In. It closed in 1986.

Towards the end the South 29 showed nothing but porn. Various businesses, including a satellite branch of the police dept., now sit on the land where the drive-in was.
