The very small Rita Theater was the second Spanish language theater for San Angelo. It was opened in June 1946.
The entrance to the projection booth was through the men’s room and up a narrow stairway. A "swamp" cooler blew air past two carbon arc projectors out the booth’s port holes furnishing the only air conditioning for the theater. It was closed in 1967.

Boxoffice of June 20, 1946: “Robb & Rowley opened its new Rita, San Angelo, June 14.”
My grandfather talks about this theater all the time. He managed it for many many years. And he often talked about Rowley United. He even has a pin from the company for 20 yrs of service.
Rita in 2009 which was set for demolition at the time this photo was taken.
The Rita is still around and look’s better now than in the 2009 photo. Look’s like there has been both some work done to the outside, inside and it could be used as a club or theatre again.
This was opened by Concho Theatres. Grand opening ad posted.
